Living a healthy life - you can choose proactively or reactively - but once it's too late, choice is no longer an option.
For me, choosing was reactive. My intention was there - especially as I aged, but the application lacked. The relentless focus on work as a means to a better life took precedent over doing the work to create a better life.
The elements of healthy living I now focus on are as follows...
Sleep is crucial for overall health, as it affects physical and mental functioning, immune system, metabolism, and chronic disease risk. During sleep, the brain is active, carrying out many important functions, and it is essential for mental focus and memory, managing stress, maintaining proper body weight, boosting the immune system, and a host of other wellness needs. Lack of sleep can increase the risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, and a harder time fighting common viruses like a cold or the flu. People with ongoing sleep deprivation also have an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke.
Mental fitness refers to a state of well-being and having a positive sense of how we feel, think, and act. It's similar to physical fitness, which refers to the ability of body systems to work together efficiently to allow us to be healthy and perform daily activities. Research has found that higher levels of mental fitness are tied to better psychological resilience, and there seems to be a mind/body connection between better physical fitness and better mental fitness. Mental fitness is also defined as the ability to leverage decisions and sustainably create high performance, increasing one's capacity, impact, and influence as a leader.
A healthy diet is essential for good health and nutrition. It protects you against many chronic noncommunicable diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Eating a variety of foods and consuming less salt, sugars and saturated and industrially-produced trans-fats, are essential for healthy diet. The number of calories you need will depend on your sex, age, and activity level. Without balanced nutrition, your body is more prone to disease, infection, fatigue, and low performance.
Physical fitness refers to the ability of body systems to work together efficiently, allowing individuals to perform daily activities with minimal effort. It is achieved through proper nutrition, moderate-vigorous physical exercise, and sufficient rest along with a formal recovery plan. Exercise is a subset of physical activity that aims to improve or maintain physical fitness. Physical fitness is a set of attributes that are either health- or skill-related. A fit person is able to perform schoolwork, meet home responsibilities, and still have enough energy to enjoy sport and other leisure activities.
Financial wellness refers to the ability to live a healthy financial life by improving various aspects of personal finances. It involves practicing better money habits, setting goals, and taking steps to achieve them, with the aim of improving overall quality of life. Financial wellness connects financial knowledge to specific actions that allow people to attain financial security and prevent stress due to financial struggles. Many employers have come out with their own financial wellness definitions.

Every relationship is unique, and people come together for many different reasons. Part of what defines a healthy relationship is sharing a common goal for exactly what you want the relationship to be and where you want it to go. And that’s something you’ll only know by talking deeply and honestly with your partner. Research has consistently shown that good social relationships are critical for optimal health, both mentally and physically. Studies have found that people with healthy relationships are more likely to engage in healthy behaviors and tend to have better health outcomes. They also often enjoy a longer life. All relationships exist on a spectrum from healthy to abusive.
